Windows 7 updates slowing computer

Stop diverting software development resources to spyware and Surface hardware development Microsoft, and get back to ensuring your core business is functioning. Spybot AntiBeacon runs on Win 7 and Win 8. If one of the updates asks you to restart it other then the one listed go ahead and restart but make sure to stay disconnected and kill the Windows Update process before running any of the patches.

Also sorry for not linking the updates but they should be found easily with the KB numbers. KBx64 already installed, KBvx64 not supported? After reboot switched on WinUpdService and finally! Found almost , downloaded and now installing………… Will see for next month updates , if it keeps problematic will stop with this updating!!

I have updates completely blocked in Windows 8. There are over of them now. The update slowdown had been a problem for me for the last 4 months. The update search and install process got progressively slower. It went from about 15 minutes in July to basically not working for the November update. I did receive notification that updates were available after Update had run for about 30 hours. What worked for me, as of today, was checking that KB was already installed it was — May and then downloading the KB stand alone installer from MS.

It was offered as an Optional update in the current update but even turning off all Important updates and selecting only KB, after 12 hours it still did not install. I then changed settings in WU to Never Check… and used services.

I then restarted and installed KB from the stand alone installer. I restarted after the installation, used services. I selected Check for updates and in about 7 minutes the 8 updates for November described above appeared. I chose install and it immediately started the download and install process. Took about 5 minutes. After doing the required reboot I checked and saw that all selected updates had been installed. I then ran another Check for updates and within 1 minute it came back with no important updates available.

In my case it had been installed in the October update. Maybe someone else can confirm this. I thought this was worth mentioning as this whole issue is unbelievably confusing to begin with and I guess the best we can do is post what worked for us individually. I let Microsoft techs into computer and they were they had fixed it….. Tried patches as submitted, yet still nothing. Worst part is that I doubt integrity of my computer but this is a m-soft problem, that they have ignored.

I recognize importance of windows updates, but I am medium level user, and need first grade level instructions for proper use. Finally something that actually does the trick. Fresh updates are installed and CPU is back to idle. Also interested in what your solution was. Which of the recommended actions in this thread did you use? Now into day 45 of no updates. No patches work, and update function has run hundreds of hours, at least 8 hours a day for 45 days.

December Windows 7 updates report — My settings are to show me available updates but let me decide what to install.

Notification of available updates appeared after starting system. No spike in CPU usage. For my system there were 3 important Windows updates and 6 Office related updates. Download and install worked just fine; total time was about 6 minutes. It appears that the process I followed in my earlier post was successful and resulted in the Windows Update process returning to normal. Fast notification of available updates, fast download and install and no spike in CPU usage. I will monitor the January update and report if there is any change.

Desperate for an answer. Thank you. Clean install of Windows 7 x64 1. Ran into the previously mentioned 0x error with my previous method… so reread everything here…. Last week I lost my hard drive. Probably a couple of bad sectors made asus recovery utility kick in. It formatted my HD, all sectors and reset to factory. So I look for solutions and start applying these patches. Now when I try to apply the earlier ones it just sits and says looking for updates on this computer.

SO 2 questions:. Somewhere around five minutes… a lot depends on internet speed, time of day, speed of computer, etc.

Tried one remote system last weekend and some were out of order, e. I would try clearing the WU cache with GWX Control Panel… that is usually a common issue with WU being stuck before and after the main patches described in this topic are applied.

Eventually I apply another KB. Thank you for the expected speed. Windows update did not work at all. It hung on searching for updates and would stay there overnight…forever. I downloaded a superset of the recommended KB patches and attempted to install them. I found that by running WindowsUpdateDiagnostic I could repair most of the things wrong in the standalone updater.

I had problems with I think the cryptographic service breaking and some other stuff. The utility will usually fix this, if not run it a second time. Once the computer comes up again you can install one patch. The other thing to note is initially indicated it was not correct for my machine.

One or two of the others did also. I found that after I installed the big one then they installed. Also I may not have had to install all of the patches below, I am just documenting what I did.

In the end it worked. This took me 5 days. I hope it saves you some time and misery. Many thanks, installing this update made my Win 7 find all missing updates in less than two minutes! Does not work. Wasted time installing it. Two reboots later, Windows Update takes just as long as it ever did. Please stop polluting the internet with this garbage. So stop complaining, please! Have a look at my last post above. You may have similar issues to mine and need to go through the whole break and repair thing as you manually install the packages.
